CRCS GmbH
Founded in 2007 by the University Hospital Salzburg and Paracelsus Medical University (PMU), Clinical Research GmbH (CRCS) offers a comprehensive service for clinical studies (one-stop-shop). It also provides courses and specialized training, for example on standards like Good Clinical Practice (GCP), biostatistics, study assistance, and training for study nurses.
CRCS conducts over 100 clinical trials (primarily phase 2 and 3 drug trials) across 19 university clinics in Salzburg and is closely networked with other Austrian clinical study centers through the Austrian Coordinating Centers for Clinical Trials (KKS) and the Pediatric Drug Research Network (OKIDS).
The Salzburg Medical Simulation Center of the CRCS offers medical simulation training. In areas such as anesthesia and intensive care, endoscopy, interventional neurology, and skills labs, training is provided to healthcare professionals at all levels. Each year, around 200 medical students and trainee doctors, as well as about 250 staff members from university clinics for anesthesiology, intensive care, trauma surgery, surgery, internal medicine, pediatrics, and otolaryngology, receive training.
PMU Science Applications GmbH
PMU Science Applications GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of the Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg – Private Foundation (PMU), began operations in Salzburg in December 2020. Its business focus is the implementation and commercialization of projects, as well as the application of new procedures and products developed at PMU.
One significant innovation from this PMU spin-off is a highly specific and reliable PCR method for detecting the COVID-19 virus via a gargle sample, developed by Prof. Barbara Kofler and her team. PMU Science Applications is one of the laboratories recommended by the Austrian Ministry of Health for SARS-CoV-2 testing.
PMU Innovations GmbH
Founded in 2016, PMU Innovations GmbH (PMU-I) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Paracelsus Medical University Salzburg. PMU-I focuses on promoting medical innovations and operates in four areas:
- Development labs for/with companies
- Contract manufacturing of prototypes
- Consultancy on medical technology issues
- Development of in-house projects
Development labs, prototype manufacturing, and consultancy services are offered as part of our service portfolio. These services focus primarily on trauma and orthopedic applications, but also extend to other clinical challenges that can be addressed with mechanical solutions.
The development of in-house projects begins with direct clinical contact and the identification of a clear clinical problem with a technical solution. After internal evaluation and feasibility confirmation, necessary resources are provided to initiate a project.
PMU-I has access to modern prototype infrastructure, including 3D printers, laser welding machines, and CNC machines. Developed prototypes can also be tested directly in an in-house operating room environment. A streamlined company structure ensures quick decisions and efficient project execution.
PMU Service GmbH
Founded in 2011, PMU Service GmbH manages the Paracelsus Shop and the student residence.
