Institute for Early Life Care

Director // Dr.in rer. nat. Beate Priewasser

The Institute for Early Life Care is the first of its kind in Europe. We cover a broad range of basic- and intervention research into the early phases of children's lives.

We view child development as a complex interplay of bio-psycho-social-spiritual dimensions. In our basic- and applied research projects, we investigate psychological developmental topics such as parent-child bonding, parent-child interaction, and early-life stress. We link these with biological parameters for health and disease in order to understand how psychological and physiological factors interact in early childhood development.

We work closely with the Early Life Care University Programme and the Early Life Care Centre at University Hospital Salzburg. This enables us to integrate research, teaching and practice. With the Early Life Care certification of facilities, we contribute to the optimisation of interprofessional healthcare for young families.

Our cooperation partners

The Institute is part of the young.hope Research Centre for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the University Hospital Salzburg.

The university programme in Early Life Care is conducted jointly with the St. Virgil Education Centre in Salzburg.

We are on the advisory board of the National Centre for Early Childhood Intervention in Vienna and on the board of the German-speaking Association Infant Mental Health.
