The Doctorate in Medical Science is taught in English and takes at least 3 years to complete. It has a scope of 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) at European & National Qualification Level 8.

Students can conduct research at the PMU sites in Salzburg or Nuremberg. External projects at clinics, teaching hospitals or in the private sector are welcome.

With 148 ECTS credits, the independent research project takes centre stage. It is accompanied by courses (13 ECTS), which are held in blocks within a week in Salzburg with online access. Elective activities totalling 19 ECTS round off the programme.

The academic success is proven cumulatively by at least two publications in international scientific journals as first author or with joint first authorship. Only one publication or one monographic dissertation can be accepted under certain conditions. All dissertations are externally peer-reviewed.
