Study Program Human Medicine
1st Academic Year: "Introduction to Patient Care" (2 ECTS)
This course focuses on introducing the field of general medicine, fundamentals of communication and physician-patient interaction, and managing challenging conversation scenarios. During the internship day, students familiarize themselves with the daily clinical routine of a general medicine teaching practice.
The course "Introduction to Patient Care" together with "Medical Psychology" and "Medical Sociology" forms the module "Psychosocial Foundations".
2nd Academic Year: Module "Clinical Examination Course" (8 ECTS)
This course covers medical history taking and physical examination techniques. The Clinical Examination Course is coordinated by the Institute of General Medicine. Its implementation involves collaboration with various university hospital departments, teaching hospitals, and general medicine teaching practices.
In the first part of the course, students receive a theoretical introduction to medical history and examination techniques. In the second part of the course, students practice the learned examination techniques in small groups in the “Skills lab”. In the third part of the course, students deepen their knowledge through bedside teaching in hospitals and medical teaching practices.
4th Academic Year: "Theoretical and Clinical Basics in General Medicine / Clinical Cases" (2,5 ECTS)
In this course, the essential theoretical and clinical foundations of general- and family medicine are taught. Students learn about the functions and specific aspects of general medicine, as well as the spectrum of primary care through case studies seen in general practice.
5th Academic Year: Clinical Practical Year General Medicine (6 ECTS)
During the clinical practical year, a mandatory four-week clerkship takes place in a general medicine teaching ordination/practice. Students gain practical experience across the entire spectrum of primary care. Students are provided with a logbook as a structured learning tool.
Master's Program Public Health
Since 2019, the Institute of General Medicine and the Institute of Nursing Science and -Practice have offered an online program in public health through the Center for Public Health and Health Services Research. The program culminates with the academic degree "Master of Science in Public Health" (MScPH).
